Christian Pulisic To Play For USMNT Against Bolivia

It’s that time of year again, time for the World Cup talk to consume all of the soccer blogs around the world. Well, that is unless you are the USMNT, then you are talking about the friendly coming up against Bolivia in Chester, PA on May 28. Even though it may only be a friendly, USMNT fans will be excited to see the return of rising superstar, Christian Pulisic. Pulisic has been speaking in a video expressing his return to the United States national team.

In the short interview that took place at Borussia Dortmund’s training ground, Pulisic expresses his excitement to make his return to the national team. He also talks about how it will be a fantastic homecoming with the game being played in Philadelphia, only two hours away from his hometown of Hershey, PA.

“I’m really excited to play in Philadelphia,” Pulisic said from Dortmund in a video. “Obviously it’s close to my home and a lot of my family will be there and I’m super excited to put on the U.S. jersey again.”

Pulisic also talks on how he will be playing with some new faces on the national team. If the team selection is anything like the last friendly, we should be seeing lots of young and fresh talent that will develop and early bond with the U.S. Star. With Pulisic only being 19 years old, it is crucial for the USMNT to put in place a young core that can grow up together and qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Pulisic has appeared in 39 matches this season for Dortmund while scoring 8 times, and assisting on six occasions. He has continued to take the world by storm and show that he has all the potential to become a superstar moving forward. He even scored a late winner a few months back against Hoffenheim.

After missing out on this summer’s World Cup in Russia, Pulisic and company missed out on some much needed experience in what could have been a huge building tournament that could help young players gain experience against top opposition. The USMNT needs to put players around Pulisic that can not only grow with him on the first team stage, but push him into becoming one of the world’s top players.

One of his long time friends and FC Dallas star, Kellyn Acosta, is only 22 and has lots of potential to become a regular midfielder for the national team. There have been some rumors circulating the last few months that Acosta could make a move to Europe this summer with several English sides interested including newly promoted Wolverhampton.

A few players that could see more time around Pulisic include several players from around the globe. I have not included players who have already been regularly first team choices for the first team such as Bobby Wood, DeAndre Yedlin, and John Brooks. FC Schalke 04’s 19-year-old starlet Weston McKennie who has appeared in 20 matches this season for the top flight Bundesliga club and 18-year-old Timothy Weah of Paris Saint-Germain who has appeared on two occasions for the French giants and the son of legendary striker George Weah, can play both up top and in the midfield.

Also 18-year-old Werder Bremen youngster Josh Sargent signed his professional contract back in February making him eligible to play for the first team this next season. And finally in goal, 22-year-old Ethan Horvath who plays in Belgium for Club Brugge has made four appearances for the club this season, looks to be a potential replacement for the aging goalkeeper issues for the national team.

Of course there are always other players that come out of nowhere and could surprise us, but one thing remains clear, the U.S. needs to center everything on Pulisic. It is clear that given the right coach and system, he could become one of the greatest players to ever wear the U.S. Soccer crest. The young talent in the United States Soccer system is astounding. Now it is time to turn that talent into a positive present for the USMNT.

It’s unclear if Pulisic will take part in the United States other friendlies against Ireland (June 2) and France (June 9).
