After many battles, Liga MX has finally started to reveal it’s final standings for the playoffs (Liguilla). Many teams came and went from the safe spot, but we are confirmed with five teams who can take the final week of action with an easy mind. On the other hand, the final week up to four teams could give fans a fun finale to see who claims the final spots.
Five teams secured
As of right now, the majority of the playoff picture is solidified. The five teams who will be able to take it easy in the final week are:
- Toluca – 36 points
- Santos Laguna – 29 points
- Monterrey – 28 points
- Tigres – 27 points
- Club América – 26 points
The team who came out to surprise this season was Toluca, who are dominating as the súperlider with a whopping 36 points. To be clear of the second-placed team by seven points is astounding, as Toluca shows no signs of slowing down with only one regular season match left.
The rest of the pack seemed predictable early on with Monterrey and Tigres having shown a lot of firepower, while Santos Laguna saw Djaniny Tavares explode from the get-go in what was an incredible season for the striker.
Club América was the team to beat for a large portion of the season, yet, injuries have caused problems from Piojo Herrera’s roster. Either way, 26 points is in the clear with one final game of the season.
The final fight
There are another five teams who can secure a spot in the playoffs during this final week of action:
- Pumas – 23 points
- Monarcas – 23 points
- Tijuana Xolos – 22 points
- Pachuca – 22 points
- Necaxa – 21 points
Granted, teams like Pachuca and Necaxa will need some miracles to happen if they want to reach the playoffs, but no one should rule the possibilities out. Liga MX is unpredictable, and in some cases, pure insanity.
The two main matches to watch in this final battle for Liguilla safety are Toluca v Tijuana Xolos and Monarcas v Necaxa. Tijuana Xolos will need to go through the toughest team to either maintain their position, or they can lose and give another team a chance to bump them.
On the other hand, Monarcas Morelia and Necaxa will go head-to-head to see who can push ahead in the standings. This showdown on Friday could be one of the most entertaining matches of the season to watch.
Who do you think will make it? Who is your favorite to take home the Liga MX title?
