The winter break has finally ended and week one of Liga MX action is back underway. There were some shocking results, yet, that’s nothing new in Liga MX.
Take a look at what went down…
Puebla take down reigning champs
The party is officially over for Tigres, who have been celebrating their win over Monterrey back in December. Their first game up was a seemingly easy walk in the park against lowly Puebla, but Puebla proved to be no pushover. Brayan Angulo netted for Puebla in the 26th minute to put the home team up, 1-0.
Tigres were able to respond before the half with a goal from Enner Valencia, who equalized in the 44th minute, thanks to an unfortunate error from Moisés Muñoz.
However, the true stunner of the game came in the 80th minute when Fransisco Acuña slotted the ball past Nahuel Guzmán, putting Puebla up 2-0. The goal from Acuña would prove to be the game-winner over the reigning Liga MX champions.
Toluca, Chivas split points
Chivas was unable to make the playoffs in the previous season and they knew a slow start would not bode well for Chivas and their fans. Playing on the road in Toluca is never an easy feat and it showed on Sunday. Young forward Alexis Vega scored a golazo for the home side, using his acrobatic skills to put the goal in the back of the net.
Chivas did not sit back after going down, in fact, they continued to dominate Toluca with possession. Only seven minutes after the second half resumed, Javier ‘Chofis” López scored a beauty to equalize.
Despite some chances for both sides, the game ended 1-1.
