Manchester City Summer Preview: Defender Incomings

After covering the outgoings from the City back line, it’s time to see what player will be potentially joining the club at Manchester City. Pep Guardiola will hope the club’s defenders get younger and more skillful with all of the players linked being young talents who have first team football experience at their respectful clubs. Let’s check out who could be joining City this summer in the defending category.

* Remember that these are just ideal signings, not all of these deals will happen. These are the players I believe City should chase whether it is one of them or all of them this summer. *

Aymeric Laporte – (22 years old) Athletic Bilbao

Laporte is a young French defender out of La Liga who is linked to just about every wealthy club in Europe. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and PSG will all love to bring in the defender. City seem to be favorites as they are willing to match any release clause and bring him in at any price since Pep is a known admirer. If City can pay the expensive price Bilbao will surely ask for, then I believe he will be a rock at the back for City for many years to come.

John Stones – (22 years old) Everton

The perfect partner to sit at the back with Laporte is the highly sought after England international Stones. Stones had been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United, and even Barcelona over the past 6 months. Pep has his sights set on the two 22 year olds coming to the club to not only deepen the defender pool, but to strengthen the club’s defender for many years to come. Stones would also help in the homegrown quota that Premier League clubs have to abide by.

Fabinho – (22 years old) AS Monaco

This is the name City fans may recognize from last summer when the Brazilian was linked to the club in a move with Bacary Sagna getting older and was in poor form at the time. Fabinho could be an ideal replacement as a young RB to take Pablo Zabaleta’s spot. I like the technical side of his game and think he would be a welcomed addition to Pep’s new side.

Danny Rose – (25 years old) Tottenham Hotspur

Although he will most likely stay at Tottenham, Rose could cash in on a big pay day and join City as a regular starter. Being English, City will have to pay a premium price for the lad but after his successful season at Tottenham, City will be more than willing to pay the price. I expect a move to be made for the Englishmen, even if it fails.

Jason Denayer – (20 years old) On loan at Galatasaray

City fans love this kid. From his ability to his confidence, Denayer has all the makings of a future club captain. His loan in Turkey was up and down but in his previous loan at Celtic, he shined. Given that Pep loves to use youth players, I think Denayer could be a part of the first team and could even see significant minutes. This guy is something special.
