We have gone over the outgoings that I think will no longer be wearing the brightly colored goalkeeper kits for Manchester City next season and now it is time to take a look at who could possibly be coming to the club this summer under Pep Guardiola’s watch. City fans can expect a flurry of signings and transfer sales this summer, as Pep wants to shape the squad into a younger, more attacking side. The Goalkeepers will be part of the youth incoming, as the two outgoings for City will both be over 34 years old.
* Remember that these are just ideal signings, not all of these deals will happen. These are the players I believe City should chase whether it is one of them or all of them this summer. *
Angus Gunn – (20 years old) Manchester City U-21
So not a true incoming but a player that could find himself as the third choice keeper next season under Pep. The 20-year-old keeper has been the talk of City’s future in goal. He has been impressive for City and England’s youth sides for years now. He is regarded as a player that could directly replace Joe Hart at City when Hart retires. If he develops well, City could have another English, four-lettered last name goalkeeper playing for City for years to come.
Geronimo Rulli – (24 years old) Real Sociedad
City could actually be replacing a former Liga BBVA keeper who is Argentine (Willy Caballero), with another Liga BBVA keeper from Argentina. Rulli is regarded as one of the most underrated keepers in the world as he has impressed for both club and country. Rulli would have to be comfortable with battling for the #1 spot from Joe Hart while playing in Cup matches mainly. For me, this is the most likely deal to happen for me. Watch this space.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen – (24 years old) FC Barcelona
The German keeper has been the second choice in goal for Barcelona behind Claudio Bravo this season. Ter Stegen will be hoping to make a big splash either at Barcelona or a move abroad. If Pep can convince him to come to City to truly battle for the first choice spot against Joe Hart, then ter Stegen will be a great signing. His technical ability and confidence on the ball will suit Pep’s style. This is my hopeful signing, but I am not getting my hopes up on this deal.
