It wasn’t pretty for Club America in their quarterfinal matchup with Cruz Azul, as they failed to score a single goal and advanced due to their better standing. On Wednesday, they will need to be better against Tigres.

Here are three key players for Club America in their search to reach the Liga MX final…

Darwin Quintero – Forward

If Club America wants to disrupt the Tigres defense, then they will need Darwin Quintero to have his best game(s). He is a strong dribbler in the attack, pacey, and able to find the attacking teammate. It is true, though, that his poor play makes the entire offense suffer throughout the game.

Tigres is very strong on the offensive end, but they can be vulnerable defensively – and that is where Darwin comes in. Having his on-the-ball movement will be key to getting players like Oribe Peralta and Renato Ibarra and hopefully breaking through for some scoring.

Edson Álvarez – Defender, Defensive midfielder

Club America missed Edson in their second leg against Cruz Azul, due to the fact he picked up a red in the first game. Being able to have him solidify the back will cause Piojo and co. to breathe a little bit easier. Moreover, there’s a little bit of revenge Edson wants to gain from facing Tigres, who defeated América one year ago in the final.

As long as Edson stays disciplined, América will be able to brace for the big time Tigres attack.

Miguel Samudio – Leftback

He is a pure engine on the left side, able to run at a high pace throughout the match. The Paraguayan will be a key factor in being able to close down Jürgen Damm, as he has done so in the past. However, he is also great at being able to distribute on the offensive end.

The veteran experience Samudio offers is why he will be an important player in the semifinal clash. If Club America is able to get a step closer to being kings of Liga MX, Miguel Samudio will be one of those players who is the reason they do.
