Real Madrid super star Cristiano Ronaldo may have inched closer to a move away from the Bernabeu. Spanish insider Guillem Balague told talkSport that a ‘strategy is in place’ for CR7 to move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Rumors have been surrounding the Portuguese star’s departure for the past year or so. He’s been quoted multiple times about how much he misses his beloved Manchester United.
Ronaldo going back to Old Trafford makes no sense for the Mercurial Superfly forward simply because the club is in the midst of a rebuild.
The time seems right for PSG to pluck the 30-year-old star.
What does he have left to prove in Spain? He’s helped Los Blancos win every conceivable trophy there is to win. Ronaldo has already become the clubs All-time scorer. His name is branded on every individual award in the sport.
“The strategy is in place from his people to leave this summer, if the money is there and Paris Saint-Germain are willing to pay it and Real Madrid feel it is the right time to let him go.”
Besides Real Madrid, only PSG and Manchester City have deep enough pockets to pay the exorbitant transfer fee it will take to get Ronaldo. We can cross City out of the picture due to CR7’s allegiance to United leaving only Les Parisiens.
PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly heading to the MLS at season’s end after his contract expires. Edinson Cavani’s name is continuously linked with a move away from the big-spending club and Ezequiel Lavezzi is rumored to be heading to Barcelona as a free agent in the summer.
Real Madrid look to be bracing themselves for Ronaldo’s departure as they have been linked to Eden Hazard in recent weeks. The club is also pondering bringing back Jose Mourinho to coach Los Galacticos. That move alone may push Ronaldo out the door as Mou and CR7 had a tumultuous relationship while together.
Where there is smoke there is fire. It’s almost inevitable that Ronaldo will leave Real Madrid for greener pastures. A possible move to the MLS is still in the cards but PSG seems like the clear-cut favorite to acquire CR7.
PSG captain Thiago Silva told L’Equipe, “It’s better to play with him than against him.”
Ronaldo could cement his legacy as the G.O.A.T. if he can help deliver a Champions League title to PSG. Marseille are the only French team to have one the coveted European title. Ronaldo will certainly help PSG continue to dominate Ligue 1.
