El Shaarawy Arrives In Roma

Stephan El Shaarawy
Stephan El Shaarawy of Italy speaks to the media during a press conference at Coverciano on October 7, 2015 in Florence, Italy.

Italian international Stephan El Shaarawy has completed his loan deal from AC Milan to AS Roma for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. AS Roma also have the option at the end of this season to make Stephan’s move to the Italian capital permanent. Before El Shaarawy moved to Roma, he was enduring a tough loan stint in France‘s Ligue 1 side Monaco.

During El Shaarawy’s time at Monaco he made 24 appearances for Monaco in all competitions, out of which he scored two goals and tallying two assists. Many scrutinized Monaco’s decision to “freeze” the forward. According to El Shaarawy’s loan deal, Monaco had an obligation to buy the forward after he made 25 appearances for the club.

The Ligue 1 side evidently felt that they were being forced to buy a player that quite frankly didn’t really perform too well for them. Why would one blame Monaco for “freezing” El Shaarawy when they felt he wasn’t “up to par” with their expectations?

Instead of joining Siniša Mihajlovic’s squad in Milan, Stephan El Shaarawy opted to be Luciano Spalletti‘s first signing for AS Roma. After the parameters of his last deal at Monaco were revealed many wondered what the specifics are for Roma. The Giallorossi agreed to pay €1.4 million to Milan for the loan until the end of the season. Roma also can make the move permanent for an extra €13 million.

“I’ve joined Roma to show what I can do – to myself, the coach, and the Italian game as a whole. I hope to repay the faith the club is showing in me and therefore I want to give 100% when I play to try and achieve great things here,” Stephan El Shaarawy told Roma TV.

This move came as Gervinho was sold off to Hebei China Fortune FC for €15 million. The Giallorossi are definitely starting to emulate what Spalletti was so well known for, getting the most with a limited budget.
