El Tri Report: News on Mexico NT & Players

Mexico’s players abroad have stayed busy, and the national team has scheduled its first match for 2016. Also, some news on Mexico’s participation in the Copa América.

Raúl Jiménez – Benfica (Portugal)

Benfica played Uniao da Madeira on December 15, and Raúl played 18 minutes in the 0-0 draw.

Next match: Rio Ave (Dec. 20)

Andres Guardado, Hector Moreno – PSV (Netherlands)

PSV had a cup match against Heracles on December 15. Both Andres Guardado and Hector Moreno played the full 90 minutes in the 3-2 victory, despite PSV falling to 10 men in the match.

Next match: PEC Zwolle (Dec.19)

Diego Reyes, Carlos Vela – Real Sociedad (Spain)

Carlos Vela played the second half against Las Palmas on December 15.

Diego Reyes rested.

Next match: Villarreal (Dec. 20)

Guillermo Ochoa – Malaga (Spain)

Ochoa started for Malaga in their Copa del Rey match against Mirandes.

Malaga would lose the match, 0-1.

Miguel Layún, Hector Herrera, Tecatito Corona – FC Porto (Portugal)

Miguel Laún would play the full 90 minutes against Feirense, while Tecatito played in the second half.

Hector Herrera rested.

FC Porto would go on to win, 1-0.

Chicharito – Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)

The man of 2015 continued his scoring form in Bayer Leverkusen’s  3-1 win over SpVgg Unterhaching in the German cup match.

Chicharito scored the second goal to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. He also claimed an assist on the third goal for Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen will advance in the cup.

Mexico to kickoff 2016 against Senegal, Seeded in Copa América

The Mexico national team will head to Miami, Florida to play Senegal on February 10. Mexico is currently ranked 22 in the FIFA rankings, and 12 by ELO.

Mexico resumes WCQ against Canada in March of 2016.

The game will be held at Marlins Park, and the game is set for 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here

For the Copa América Centenario, El Tri along with USA, Argentina, and Brazil will be seeded in the group stages (Group C). Group stage matches for Mexico will be: June 5 (Glendale, AZ), June 9 (Pasadena, CA), and June 13 (Houston, TX).
