El Tri Report: Tecatito Scores a Stunner

The Mexicans abroad contingency had another highlight filled weekend, including a beauty from Tecatito Corona.

Raúl Jiménez – Benfica (Portugal)

Raúl came on in the 67th minute against Zenit in the second leg of Benfica’s Champions league clash. It was Raúl’s shot which hit the crossbar and lead to Benfica’s game winning goal. They advanced with an aggregate of 3-1.

Raúl did not play in Benfica’s 4-1 win over Tondela.

Chicharito – Bayer Leverkusen (Germany)

Chicharito started in Bayer’s 1-0 win over Hamburg SV.

He also played the 90 minutes against Villarreal in Bayer’s Europa league match. Bayer lost the first leg, 2-0.

Raúl Gudiño – União da Madeira (Portugal)

Raúl did not play against FC Porto due to being on loan with Madeira. He will be set to play their next match.

Marco Fabián – Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany)

Marco started and played 54 minutes in Frankfurt’s 0-3 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach.

Diego Reyes, Carlos Vela – Real Sociedad (Spain)

Diego started and went the full 90 against Celta Vigo. Carlos Vela was subbed in during the 54th minute in Real Sociedad’s 0-1 loss.

Miguel Layún, Hector Herrera, Tecatito – FC Porto (Portugal)

All three Mexican’s started in FC Porto’s match against Madeira. Hector Herrera scored a terrific goal to put FC Porto up 2-0. Madeira, however, would make a come back and equalize the game.

Tecatito Corona was the savior for FC Porto, as he scared a screamer to clinch the game, 3-2.

Memo Ochoa – Malaga (Spain)

Ochoa has taken full advantage of his starting spot, and on Friday he earned a clean sheet in Malaga’s 1-0 victory over Sporting Gijon.

Alan Pulido – Olympiacos (Greece)

Alan played 9 minutes in Olympiacos’ 3-1 victory over Panathinaikos.

Hector Moreno, Andrés Guardado – PSV (Netherlands)

Moreno and Guardado started and went the full 90 in PSV’s 1-1 draw with Heerenveen. Andrés recorded a whopping 11 interceptions in the match.

PSV will be facing Atletico Madrid on March 15 for their second leg in the Champions league.

Other Mexican football news

Mexico’s U-20 will be facing Arizona United on April 17th in an exhibition match. The Stoppage Time will be reporting live from the game.

For March’s World cup qualifying, Mexico’s roster will be announced by Juan Carlos Osorio on Wednesday, March 16. Mexico will face Canada on March 25 (road) and March 29 (home).
