World Cup qualification in the CONCACAF resumes at the beginning of September, which means Juan Carlos Osorio will be assembling his roster to take on Panama (Sept. 1) and Costa Rica (Sept. 5). As of now, Mexico is first in qualification, and one total win will guarantee them a ticket.

Since El Tri is virtually booked for Russia 2018, here are three players Juan Carlos Osorio needs to give a look…

Edson Álvarez

We saw him at the 2017 Gold Cup where he was one of, if not the best player on the field for Mexico. Although those games count as a senior cap, he has never featured with the European based players. The defender/defensive midfielder could be a huge option for Osorio heading into Russia 2018.

If Edson can tackle big obstacles and star with a domestic side team, imagine what he could do with the European club talent on the field. Juan Carlos Osorio would be doing a smart thing in keeping Edson close to his roster because he has been growing at a rapid rate in 2017.

Walter Gael Sandoval

The Santos Laguna midfielder has not played for his national team but September needs to be the time to give him the opportunity. Walter is a crucial player for Santos Laguna, and he has been drawing interest from European clubs. A great time to see a player show up when needed would be a game that matters (although Mexico has some breathing room) at home in the Estadio Azteca.

Knowing that Osorio likes the 3-4-3 and 4-3-3, it’s never a bad idea to start broadening your options in the midfield. Now that Jonathan dos Santos has left European football and with Andrés Guardado entering his last World Cup, one injury or a massive drop in form could call for a roster spot swap.

Omar Govea

Omar is another midfielder on the list who would be a great addition to the September roster. His start with Belgian club Royal Excel Mouscron has started beautifully, claiming two goals and an assist in four matches. This defensive midfielder has hit the ground running on his loan.

Similar to Sandoval, Govea is a midfielder Osorio should give a look. He has a lot on his plate with his career in Europe, yet, he has shown composure. The only strike against him being called is to keep him with his club to maintain his momentum, but the two matches in September could do wonders for his confidence.
