Lost in the middle of Manchester City being gifted the Premier League title and Paris Saint-Germain taking hold of their seventh Ligue 1 title is the story of PSV Eindhoven, managed by Phillip Cocu. In a solid display at the Philips Stadion, PSV silenced Erik ten Hag’s AFC Ajax Amsterdam 3-0 for their 24th Eredivisie crown.

Ajax were forced to play down to nine men after Nicolas Tagliafico (80′) and Siem de Jong (83′) were sent off. Gaston Pereiro (23′), Luuk de Jong (38′) and Steven Bergwijn (54′) scored for the Farmers. Despite being outpossessed 36 to 64 percent, PSV had more shots (18 to 11), shots on target (12 to three) and corners (eight to three).

One player that could be leaving PSV Eindhoven for the big money of the Premier League is Marcel Brands. Brands is the technical director of the club and his leadership and expertise is prized by Everton, whose campaign in the EPL has been very lousy.

“I have a contract at PSV. There is interest but is it hard to leave this beautiful place,” Brands said of his end-of-season plans. “We are busy preparing for next season. We started doing so at the winter break. Now it’s time to relax and celebrate.”

PSV’s next two matches are expected to be guard of honor affairs as Roda JC (4/18, 9:30 a.m. PT) and ADO Den Haag (4/29, 5:30 a.m. PT) play host. Roda are 16th on the table with a record of 7-5-19 (26 points) and are risking being relegated through the playoffs at the end of the year. Den Haag are is a slightly better sport at 12-7-12 (43 points), good for ninth.
