Paolo Sousa’s Fiorentina has fumbled an opportunity to gain three points and add pressure to acquire a European spot after drawing to Chievo Verona. Fifth place Fiorentina’s poor form continued Saturday evening at the Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi as Chievo Verona held Fiorentina to a 0-0 draw. Fiorentina have only won one game out of their last ten Serie A matches played.

Despite drawing against Chievo, the point moved Fiorentina seven points ahead of sixth place AC Milan. AC Milan will host struggling Frosinone on Sunday with a chance to close the gap between sixth and fifth place. La Viola were the more threatening side in this match against Chievo, hitting the post early in the second half after a wonderful free kick by Mauro Zarate.

The hosts at points in the match looked to steal the three points from Fiorentina. Nicola Rigoni was denied by the woodwork in the second half. Antonio Floro Flores came close to steal the match for Chievo in the dying stages of the match. Antonio Floro Flores whipped a low shot at the Fiorentina goal but was saved by la Viola’s goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Fiorentina are absolutely desperate to hold onto a place in a European competition whether its the Champions League or the Europa League. La Viola need to finish their last two matches in the Serie A strong with at least one win to keep AC Milan out of contention. AC Milan could close the gap to just four points with a win against Frosinone.

Paolo Sousa’s side could potentially only have fifth place to hold onto if Inter Milan win their match in Rome against Lazio. The Nerazzurri can lock onto fourth with a win against Lazio but anything less Fiorentina have hopes to possibly leapfrog them in the end. Internazionale di Milano needs a strong display in Rome in order to lockdown fourth place in the Serie A.

The battle for the last spots in the Serie A for a birth in a European competition is on and among them Inter Milan have the easiest schedule. Internazionale di Milano after their match on Sunday against Lazio will host 12th place Empoli and then travel to the Stadio Citta del Tricolore to play Sassuolo on the final match day in Italy.

Fiorentina will host relegation threatened Palermo in Florence and will close their season in Rome at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio. AC Milan will travel to struggling Bologna and then host the surprising possible second place contender AS Roma. Juventus may have wrapped up their fifth Scudetto title but the battles rage on for the last few European spots.
