Internazionale di Milano head coach Roberto Mancini believes his side will fight for third place to the end of the Serie A season. Inter Milan was able to scrounge a 1-0 victory against 10-man Frosinone Saturday evening at the Stadio Comunale Matusa. Inter Milan, Fiorentina and AS Roma are all battling it out for the last Champions League spot in the Serie A.

The top three teams in Italy’s Serie A go to the UEFA Champions League, with third place having to play in the qualification rounds before the tournament’s start. The consolation prize for any of the two clubs that fail to achieve third place will be that they will compete in the UEFA Europa League instead, which is still a good thing for the Serie A. AS Roma lead the pack in third place with 64 points, Inter Milan are in fourth with 58 points and Fiorentina are in fifth with 56 points.

Mauro Icardi netted his 50th goal for Inter in his 100th appearance for the Nerazzurri. “We will give it all to pass Roma, but it will be tough, as long as there are points available you have to fight” Roberto Mancini stated to the press after the match against Frosinone.

“Next Saturday we hope it will be a beautiful game because Napoli have great players and are having a good season. Today I don’t give ratings, the important thing is that the team won and controlled the match. In the first half we didn’t play well, but great. Yesterday I said that the coach is always depending on the results, while the players have done very well and always gave their best, even if we lost some games undeservedly. But this is football and you have to accept it” Mancini commented to the media.

Inter Milan will be entertaining Napoli April 16th at the San Siro which will be a challenge as mentioned by the Inter head coach Roberto Mancini. The other challenges lurk on after Internazionale’s match against Napoli. Inter Milan will be hosting Udinese on the 23rd of April and afterwards on the 1st of May Inter travel to Rome to take on the scrappy Lazio.

Inter Milan’s final match of the season also can be arduous one too, on the 15th of May the Nerazzurri will travel to the Stadio Citta del Tricolore to play against the giant killers, Sassuolo. The gap between third and fourth is only six points and Roma have tough matches ahead of them and it only takes two games to turn the battle for the Champions League upside down.
