LA Galaxy Introduce a New Secondary Jersey

It’s that time of year again in Major League Soccer (MLS), teams are unveiling their new kits to lure merchandise dollars from fans who can’t get enough of the different designs and looks to wear on game days.  No team known better how to advertise itself like the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Last year the five-time champs introduced a new kit with an ingenious ad campaign that sought to align their identity with land marks around Los Angeles.  The Galaxy also included a strategy that the fashion world uses more frequently these days: the pop up shop.

Creating a Hollywood vibe the Galaxy had a brief pop up shop open in the Downtown area of LA to introduce their new jersey and to bring its star players together with fans.  Not surprisingly the campaign worked and the club had three players among the top 20 of jersey sales for the year according to the MLS store website.

This year the Galacticos will stick to the same home jersey but are now introducing a new secondary kit with a brand new campaign.  On Wednesday the Galaxy revealed the “Out of the Blue” campaign  again featuring their players wearing the jersey in different locations in Los Angeles.

The design is a simple dark blue that evokes the color of the ocean not far from the Galaxy’s home the Stub Hub center.  The logo of HerbaLife Nutrition a supplement company will continue to be on the front, and the single gold star over the team crest representing the five MLS Cups won by the franchise.

Los Angeles will wear the jersey on their road games during all competitions, and most likely so will their USL affilate Galaxy II.

With this being the last year the Galaxy can claim Los Angeles all to their own, it will be interesting to see how they will continue to advertise in the heart of Los Angeles when Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) comes on the scene.

In 2018 fans will see the Galaxy wear their road blues against LAFC in their black jerseys, perhaps they can name the rivalry the Black and Blue Derby.  Whatever the case you can guarantee the Galaxy will try to continue to with their campaigns to remind everyone who runs LA.
