The semifinals have concluded and we are left with two teams who were just too strong for their opponents on Sunday. Santos Laguna had an early scare, yet, their composure lifted them past América. Meanwhile, Toluca put on a clinic in front of their home fans, proving that they were too strong for Xolos.

After bumping Tigres, Santos Laguna was left to take on the team who concluded the season at #2 in Club América. It didn’t take long before Santos Laguna started exposing América. Oswaldo Martínez hit a perfect strike from distance, getting Santos the confidence they needed. Although América made the game level, Julio Furch hit two goals to put the game out of reach, along with one more from Edwin Cetre.

Santos Laguna entered the Azteca with a nice lead, but América were able to get two on the board within the first 30 minutes of play. However, Jonathan Rodríguez put the game out of reach with a goal before halftime. Club América was unable to recover, seeing out a 2-2 draw at home.

Santos Laguna will look to claim their 6th title in Liga MX.

Toluca started their semifinals a bit shaky, losing to Tijuana Xolos on the road, 1-2. They did, however, end the game with a goal to boost the confidence level a tad. On Sunday, even a 0-2 loss on Thursday proved no problem. Toluca, the Súperlider, blasted through a nine-manned Xolos, 4-1.

Although they won big, Toluca cannot give Santos Laguna the same space in the defense. They are too clinical, especially with a goal-scoring machine in Djaniny.

In order to claim their 11th Liga MX title, Toluca must play smarter, otherwise, Santos Laguna could spoil what has been a near perfect season for Los Diablos Rojos.
