It was a short break, but the usual Liga MX action got underway this weekend. We saw some interesting results, along with some action packed matches.
Take a look at how the teams did…
Veracruz 1, Querétaro 0
Despite dictating the pace of the game with their possession, Querétaro could not find the back of the net. The game saw its only goal in the 51st minute when Leobardo López found a pass wide open on a set piece and slotted the ball for the ultimate winning goal for Veracruz.
Cruz Azul 1, Necaxa 0
This was a hotly contested match, with a total of 55 fouls between the two teams. It was Cruz Azul, however, who found themselves on the winning end with a goal in the 19th minute from Adrián Aldrete.
Tigres 0, Santos Laguna 0
The reigning champs, Tigres, opened the season against Santos Laguna. Tigres dominated possession (66%), but it was Santos who got the 15 shots off, to Tigres’ 7. Either way, neither team could sneak one past the keeper, and this one ended, 0-0.
Morelia 2, Tijuana Xolos 0
In one of the more surprising results of the weekend, Morelia took down Tijuana on Saturday. A goal in the 20th minute from Carlos Morales got the momentum going for Morelia, and the dagger in the 90th minute from Raúl Ruidiaz secured Morelia’s three points.
Pachuca 4, Club León 2
Total fireworks from Pachuca and Club León in a 4-2 thriller. However, the brilliance from youngster, Hirving Lozano, was too much for Club León, as he recorded a hat-trick, pushing the game out of reach. It’s another scary start for the offensive powerhouse of Pachuca.
Chivas 2, Pumas 1
The first half was all Chivas, with two goals from Javier López and Alan Pulido. However, Pumas got one back early in the second half with a golazo from Alan Mendoza. The home side was too strong, though, and walked away with the 2-1 win.
Toluca 4, Atlas 1
Things started off dicey for Toluca, as an own-goal in the first minute put Atlas up, 1-0. Yet, six minutes later, Fernando Uribe got Toluca even. It was a snowball effect from there for Toluca, as they cruised for a 4-1 victory at home to kickoff the season.
Monterrey 3, Puebla 2
To end the weekend, we had a goal-fest between Monterrey and Puebla. It was the Jesús Molina–Alexis Canelo show, as both scored two goals for their teams. Monterrey was just a tad bit better on Sunday with a goal from Edwin Cardona to seal it for the win in the 86th minute.
