Bruce Arena’s LA Galaxy take on Patrick Vieira’s New York City FC in an Major League Soccer cross-conference clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET. The match details, from MLSSoccer.com.
- David Villa scored two goals – his fourth two-goal game of the season – and moved into a tie in the MLS Golden Boot standings with 15 goals as NYCFC concluded their two-game road swing with a second consecutive draw, reaching a 3-3 result with Columbus Crew SC on Saturday evening at MAPFRE Stadium.
- Frank Lampard also netted a goal for NYCFC, his ninth goal of the season, all over the last 10 matches (since June 18), as his club maintained its hold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
- The Galaxy extended their league undefeated run to nine games with a third consecutive draw, coming back for a 1-1 result with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at StubHub Center.
- The teams met once during NYCFC’s inaugural season, and it was a 5-1 rout for the Galaxy, Aug. 13 at StubHub Center. Robbie Keane scored two goals and set up two others; Giovani dos Santos also scored a goal and added an assist.
Two important facets to the team, Vieira, the manager for NYCFC, and defender Maxime Chanot, have been suspended, per Adam Serrano.
CARSON, Calif. — New York City FC will likely not have head coach Patrick Vieira or defender Maxime Chanot for their clash with the LA Galaxy.
Vieira and Chanot were red carded postgame of NYCFC’s draw with Columbus Crew SC last weekend. After the dramatic 3-3 draw with Columbus, Vieira and Chanot were involved in an argument with referee Sorin Stoica that led to both being ejected and suspended for this week’s match with the Galaxy. Chanot has made three appearances for New York City since being signed in July.
The NYCFC head coach told reporters postgame that he intends to appeal the decision, but no announcement on that appeal has been made.
