Liverpool has been in the same position this season that they have been for the last few seasons, mid-table. Even with the addition of the former Borussia Dortmund and highly touted manager Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool still are finding life in the EPL this season as hard as usual. Klopp will be looking to bring in some players to help push for a Champions League spot. One name that has popped up recently is Juventus defender, Martin Caceres. Liverpool is in desperate need of a more consistent Central Defender and have turned their eyes to the Uruguayan.
It is believed that Klopp has already launched a bid in order to secure his signature. Now don’t get too excited Liverpool fans, Caceres has only played 180 total minutes this season. Yeah, I’d say he has an injury problem. While I fully understand that a lot of that is not his fault, there is a reason that Juve have not signed him to a new deal with his current one due to expire in the summer. With playing only 2 matches worth of playing time, I don’t blame them. Juventus may be happy to offload him for a transfer fee since he will be for free in the summer. Look for Juve to potentially offer him to several clubs.
Caceres is a real talent and a great player overall but I think spending any amount of money on him in such an injury-plagued season, is a huge risk that should not be taken. If Liverpool were to bring him in on a free that would be a much better option for Liverpool. I would not be surprised if they make a move for a defender in the current window, but I don’t expect it to be Caceres. With some big matches against clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United coming up in the next few weeks, a new defender may be needed not just wanted.
