Steven Gerrard #8 of Los Angeles Galaxy warms up prior to the Los Angeles Galaxy's MLS match against Portland Timbers at the StubHub Center on October 18, 2015 in Carson, California. The Portland Timbers won the match 5-2

Bruce Arena‘s Los Angeles Galaxy announced this week that Armenian Premier League Champions FC Shirak will be playing the L.A. Galaxy in a preseason friendly at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Jan. 30. The Galaxy will face FC Shirak for the second time in club history, recording a 2-1 win over the Armenian side in 2014 behind goals from forward Gyazi Zardes and former Galaxy striker Samuel at StubHub Center in front of a crowd of more than 12,000 to witness the preseason exhibition.

FC Shirak are currently in third place (3-1-3, 21 points) through the first half of the 2015-16 Armenian Premier League season. Armenian Davit Hakobyan and Ivorian Konan Odilon have each scored four goals during the campaign to lead the club.

There has been some discussion of Steven Gerrard being loaned out to Liverpool for a guest stint as part of Jurgen Klopp‘s revamped Reds. However, this has been denied by Klopp, Arena, and Gerrard himself. Gerrard will be part of a special Liverpool selection for a friendly with a similar selection of former Socceroo greats later this year.

“I’m going to go in for a couple of weeks and work with Mr Klopp, so I’m really looking forward to that,” Gerrard told’s Adam Serrano. “To see what he’s about and try and learn a few things off him.”

Meanwhile, the Galaxy will be hosting a holiday party on MLS Cup Day, Sunday, December 6, at StubHub Center. From the LA Galaxy web site…

Attended by various LA Galaxy alumni, players, staff, mascot Cozmo and open to all members of the public, the day will culminate with a viewing of the 2015 MLS Cup, scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. PT, which will be followed by a showing of a family holiday movie.

The MLS Cup and holiday movie will both be shown on GalaxyTV, the club’s 5,100 square foot LED video board located above the berm behind the North goal, which is the largest video board in Major League Soccer. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets to view the holiday movie and MLS Cup from the StubHub Center stadium field.

As part of the holiday party at StubHub Center, the LA Galaxy will provide a designated area that will be filled with snow as fans will have the opportunity for sledding and making snowmen and snow angels, with all water to be recycled and reused throughout StubHub Center. There will be multiple sleds available in the designated snow area for fans to utilize.

The Galaxy will also host a Holiday Toy Drive on Sunday, Dec. 6, with all participants encouraged to bring unwrapped holiday toys and gifts for the chance to win 2016 LA Galaxy season seats. Everyone that donates will receive one raffle ticket per each toy donated with the opportunity to win complimentary 2016 season tickets through the raffle; additional raffle tickets are available for purchase for only $5 per raffle ticket.
