Manchester City Sign Ilkay Gundogan

Wake up Manchester City fans! The Pep Guardiola regime has finally begun with the very first signing of the summer. Ilkay Gundogan has signed on a 4-year contract for a reported 21 million pound fee from Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder has been linked with the move for some time now with the secret being all but confirmed by the source for sometime. The deal was announced in one of the best ways possible.

When City fans want to have a player announced by the club you will see something like #AnnounceYork or something like that. This time around, Ilkay Gundogan himself tweeted out #AnnounceGundogan and minutes later the official City account confirmed the deal. The announcement was so big that the City website could not handle the amount of traffic it was receiving all at once as the website crashed for around 15 minutes. It is always awesome to see the club announce the deal in a unique way with the player himself making the deal known before the actual club.

Gundogan is a passing genius in the Bundesliga and gave Pep trouble on several occasions when Dortmund played against Bayern Munich. The German international is currently injured so he was left out of the Euro 2016, 23-man squad.

The player will make an excellent addition to the team, especially the creative midfielder role. David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne have been carrying the weight of the attacking midfielder roles so the addition of another precise passing halfback will be a welcomed sight for both players. Gundogan will spend the summer rehabbing his injured knee in hopes that he will be ready for the start of the season with Pep in charge.

So what do you think Blues? Are you happy with the new signing? Will he make a difference with the first team? I for one think he is an excellent signing for a great price. He will play a pivotal role for City in the coming years.
