Manchester City is the only team left in the Champions League. Can you believe that? I certainly can. The Citizens were hit hard by losing their two main defensive players against Kyiv with Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi picking up a knock. Kompany will be out a month and Otamendi is fine after he rested a bit.

City were ultimately overlooked for their performances against Dynamo Kyiv even though the team held a 0-0 draw against a team desperate to score in hopes of knocking City out. Man City are not just going to lay down and die in Europe and the other 7 quarterfinalists need to take notice of how City have been playing to date.

At the beginning if the season, not many people had City making it this far, let alone becoming the only club in the UCL left from England. The craziest part is, City is still disrespected severely in Europe despite some great performances during the current campaign. City have not been the biggest challenger for the UCL over the past few seasons, however, no one seems to give them any chance at moving onto the semi finals. It’s time to start seeing City as a team to fear both at home and in Europe.

Manchester City has won six out of their eight Champions League matches this campaign with their only two losses coming at the hands of Juventus in 2-1 and 1-0 losses. So why is City still being seen as a pushover in Europe despite the lack of losses? Mainly, people judge City based on past performances against the likes of Barcelona whom City seems to draw every year in the competition. That’s fair, but then we have to start saying that about every club who falls to Barcelona in big ways.

That would include Arsenal, PSG, and Roma. However, City lost two hard fought battles against Barcelona in the round of 16 last season in a 2-1 and 1-0 Barcelona wins. That’s’ closing that gap from a 4-1 aggregate defeat in the same round to Barça as well the year prior. I compare City to the former Barcelona scores because I would not be surprised if the two meet up again in the Quarterfinals. Even though the team sheet may seem rather one sided, especially without Vincent Kompany, I would not be shocked if City moved onto the Semifinals against any opponent if they can snag an away goal or two.

The possible match ups for City included; Real Madrid, SL Benfica, Barcelona, VFL Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and PSG. The draw is of course random, and City drew PSG. The matchup will be a tough one for City but this is a better alternative to a Barcelona match up for the 3rd straight season. City will travel to Paris for the first leg on April 6th then return home for the second leg on April 12th.

The draw took place this morning early in the morning at 6 AM eastern time. The match ups will be highlighted in our Quarterfinal draw reaction article.
