Mexico will be back in action at the end of the month with a friendly in San Antonio, Texas against Bosnia Herzegovina. It will be a non-FIFA friendly, so don’t expect any of Mexico’s European based players to star in this one. It is, however, a time to see what the youth in Liga MX can do together in an all-important World Cup year.
Here is a list of players who must get a call from JCO…
Carlos Vargas – Defender (Club América)
The 18-year-old has won a starting spot in Piojo’s XI, either as a left-back or left-centreback. It would be great to see him win a chance to represent Mexico, especially with such a high work rate he has shown with Club América.
Gael Sandoval – Winger/Midfielder (Chivas)
He just started his tenure with Chivas but his track record in Liga MX warrants an opportunity with El Tri. Known for his pin-point accurate crosses, Juan Carlos Osorio would be wise in giving Gael a look against Bosnia.
Víctor Guzmán – Attacking midfielder/Forward (Pachuca)
If you’ve been following Liga MX for even a year, you have heard of Víctor Guzmán. The Pachuca attacking midfielder has been scorching the pitch for his club and it is time for him to do so with Mexico. It also helps his case that he was able to keep his rhythm at the Club World Cup, as well as coming off the game-equalizing goal against América this past weekend.
Henry Martín – Forward (Club América)
If Mexico wants to start looking at younger players, especially in-form fresh faces, then it has to take a look at new Club América striker Henry Martín. The 25-year-old is coming in from Tijuana Xolos and things are going well, to say the least. In two matches, Henry scored two big goals for América. He is a player who will need to fight for his spot with Darwin Quintero, Oribe Peralta, and Jéremy Ménez on the depth chart which bodes well for Mexico if he is in-form.
Alexis Vega – Forward/Winger (Toluca)
The Toluca forward at 20 years old has caught some attention in the league, especially after one of the best goals of the early season against Chivas. This upcoming friendly is the perfect time to see what Alexis can do, especially since he has had very few chances to represent the green kit.
