MLS: Here Comes That Man – Jermaine Jones Heading To LA Galaxy

COMMERCE CITY, CO - NOVEMBER 27: Jermaine Jones (13) of the Colorado Rapids reacts with disgust to a play against the Seattle Sounders during first half of the second leg of the Western Conference Finals at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on November 27, 2016, in Commerce City, Colorado. More moves are coming from Major League Soccer as the Seattle Sounders wound down their victory parade. Jermaine Jones is officially a Galaxy man. The former New England Revolution and Colorado Rapids bookend is going to finally make a name for himself with the glamour club of Major League Soccer. Age may make his role more that of a senior leader and adviser to the young blood that will be coming from the LA Galaxy II, the Academy and elsewhere.

As a result of the move, the Galaxy traded their 2017 1st Round SuperDraft selection. Prior to the move, Jones recorded three goals and three assists for the Rapids, who eliminated the Galaxy in the MLS Western Conference Semifinals, only to be eliminated by the eventual MLS Cup Champions from Seattle.

Meanwhile, Clint Irwin is headed back to Toronto FC after being picked by Atlanta United in the expansion draft. In exchange, Atlanta receive defender Mark Bloom and general allocation money. In more news regarding Atlanta, Paraguayan Oscar Romero will be joining the team as a designated player, according to confirmed reports. Fullback Sheanon Williams, now a bonafide journeyman, is on his way to the Vancouver Whitecaps from the Houston Dynamo. Once again, this is in exchange for general allocation money, which is turning into a primary plot device in regards to the offseason.

“We’ve been chatting with him the whole way through in terms of [how players] fit and how they can be part of Atlanta United and Tata’s team,” Atlanta United club president Darren Eales said. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the picks that we got and the value that we think we got out of it. It was an interesting experience because you don’t have very long between the list of unprotected and the draft itself. There’s a lot of moving parts. There’s other clubs that are interested in players and are proposing trades.

“We’ve just been as organized as we could before hard and then just tried to move as best we could. Overall, this will be something that’s going to be one piece of the jigsaw puzzle when we kick off in March 2017. Our plan is to get as many [players] as we can in for preseason training camp. There’s plenty of ways and mechanisms for us to build a team. Today was another important step in that process.”
