MLS News: Los Angeles Galaxy Set To Sign European Trio; Morris To Make Career Decision

Bruce Arena‘s Los Angeles Galaxy are nearing signing Ashley Cole (AS Roma), Nigel de Jong (AC Milan) and Jelle van Damme (Standard Leige) to contracts with the club and could be on the plane to L.A. as soon as this week. The dealings come on the heels of the acquisitions of Jeff Larentowicz, Mike Magee and Emmanuel Boateng, as well as the exit of Juninho and Omar Gonzalez. ESPNFC’s Jeff Carlisle writes on the breakdown of Cole’s agreement.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations also confirmed the L.A. Times report that no Targeted Allocation Money would be applied to Cole’s contract, should he indeed end up signing with the Galaxy. The source added that Roma will still be paying the vast majority of Cole’s salary, with the Galaxy’s portion is set to come out to around $300,000 per year.

Cole has been frozen out at current side AS Roma after refusing to cancel his contract at the beginning of the current season. After leaving Premier League side Chelsea in the summer of 2014, Cole made just 13 league and cup appearances with Roma during the 2014-15 campaign.

Meanwhile, USMNT member Jordan Morris has a huge decision to make. Does he sign with German side Werder Bremen or sign with Seattle Sounders as a homegrown player?

“Jordan’s over there training and they’re going to react as they react, it’s a thing we don’t control,” Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey told MLSsoccer.com. “It’s part of Jordan’s process, and when he completes his process I hope he signs with the Sounders. I think we put our best foot forward, I think MLS is a great place for a young player to start his career, and I think we continue to have a great relationship with Jordan. So I’m hopeful that will work out.”

The Magic Man, Mike Magee, is head over heels for the love he’s receiving from fans of the Galaxy, who hail him as a cult hero to this very day.

“The amount of love that I’ve gotten from the Fire fans is great. We’ve had a lot of special times together and it won’t be forgotten. And the reception that I’ve received from Galaxy fans is remarkable,” Magee told LAGalaxy.com. “I tried to turn off my phone so that I wouldn’t see what people were saying, but obviously, that’s impossible.
