Napoli continued their dominance in Group B of the UEFA Champions League Wednesday evening defeating Benfica 4-2 at the Stadio San Paolo in Naples Italy. The Italian side ran riot inside the first hour of the match with Marek Hamsik, Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens scoring all four goals. Maurizio Sari’s side scored Napoli’s first goal of the evening inside the first 20 minutes coming from Marek Hamsik.

Napoli went into halftime with a 1-0 lead against Benfica but the lead was slightly soured when Raul Albiol had to be subbed off just after 11 minutes into the match for an injury. Sari’s side, after the start of the second half, ran rampant scoring their second goal on the 51st minute through Dries Mertens. Maurizio’s replacement to Gonzalo Higuain, Arkadiusz Milik, added a third for Napoli on the 54th minute through a penalty. Mertens would go onto grab a brace on the 59th minute and at that point the contest was decided at 4-0 to the hosts.

The visitors from Lisbon were in fact able to pull back two late consolation goals coming from Gonçalo Guedes and Eduardo Salvio. Napoli now sits on top of Group B with six points and will be going into their upcoming matches on a high note knowing that their European hopes are safe for now. Napoli will be traveling to Atalanta this Sunday with their confidence soaring.

Atalanta have been left adrift with six points going into week seven of the Italian Serie A and will have their hands full when they play Napoli. Maurizio Sari will also have a crucial week after week seven in the Serie A. Napoli will be entertaining the stuttering AS Roma which are on the rise to put last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Torino to rest. The match against Roma will be a definite challenge but immediately after that match against the Giallorossi.

Napoli will be looking to keep their record perfect in the Champions League when they entertain the stubborn Besiktas. Besiktas will be looking to gain some kind of result against Napoli come October 19 especially since they are challenging for the second place spot. Besiktas have drawn both of their two matches in the Champions League against Benfica and Dynamo Kiev.
