Paris Saint-Germain unbeaten run continues after a thorough thrashing of Nice was completed Friday in the Riviera. The visitors did have to endure a bit of pressure from their hosts inside the first 30 minutes of the match. The first goal came from an assist from everyone’s favorite Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani scored it after 35 minutes.
The match would turn against the hosts just before halftime. The goal scorer Cavani was picked out by the Argentine wizard Angel Di Maria on the counter. Cavani then found the prolithic Zlatan who ended up being dragged down from behind in the box by Niklas Hult, which ended in a penalty to PSG and a red card for Hult and Nice.
Zlatan buried the penalty right before halftime making it 0-2 for PSG and ending hopes for Nice at 44 minutes. Ibrahimovic added and an extra goal to his tally of the evening at 61 minutes and the match would continue to end 0-3 in favor of Le Parisiens.
Paris Saint-Germain’s league display this season has been nothing less than stellar. The Parisien giants have tallied 14 wins and three ties in Ligue 1 this campaign. PSG currently is perched on top of the Ligue 1 table. The second place team, the newly promoted, Angers is behind the Parisiens by 15 points along with third place Caen which is behind by 16 points.
The Parisiens have also built their lead on scoring plenty of goals this season. PSG have scored a total of 40 goals so far in Ligue 1 and they still have 21 games left to play. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani have tallied 21 goals between the two forwards alone.
Domestic success this early for Paris Saint-Germain is in fact a really good thing. Especially since the main goal for the French club is that ever elusive UEFA Champions League. Achieving success early in Ligue 1 can help PSG focus on the Champions League.
PSG will more than likely finish in second place in their Champions League group stage and will need to focus if they get drawn in the round of 16 against another European giant.
