Santos Laguna Creating History in Havana

Los Guerreros will make history during November’s international break with a friendly match against the Cuban National Team in Havana, Cuba. Santos Laguna will be the first Mexican team to ever play on Cuban soil this November. The match between Santos Laguna and the Cuban National Team is scheduled to take place November 14 at Pedro Marrero Stadium.

This match will mark the first ever game played between a Mexican and Cuban team in the Caribbean nation. The friendly will include Santos’ longtime aviation partner AeroMexico since the game will belong to the 2015 edition of the AeroMexico Cup. The match will be similar to the match played in Houston between Santos and Queretaro, which Santos emerged victorious against los Gallos Blancos in penalties.

“It really is historical, to go to Cuba to play a friendly match, given what we seen in terms of its history, especially recently.”

Santos Vice President Alberto Candeo stated “It really is historical, to go to Cuba to play a friendly match, given what we seen in terms of its history, especially recently.” Alberto Candeo is obviously shedding light on the recent developments that saw Cuba and U.S. relations finally thaw. Santos Vice President was also quick to point out Santos will be the “first Mexican squad to play in Cuban territory, and the first Mexican team to play a friendly match against the national team.”

The image Santos has been working on recently has been of a side that breaks down barriers and borders to promote their image worldwide. Alberto Candeo also was quoted “We have always sought out the name and values of this club at different levels, in order to continue forging ‘Guerreros Sin Fronteras’ (Warriors without Borders), this is an important part of the vision and mission of the team.”

Santos traveling to Havana marks to be one of the most beautiful moments in Football. Los Guerreros playing against the Cuban National Team on November 14 shows us all the strength of the Beautiful Game. Not even political affiliation can halt Joga Bonito anymore.
