Torn ACL For Marchisio

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is set to miss the rest of the Serie A season and a large portion of the next Scudetto season. The Italian international was stretchered off in the 16th minute of Juve’s home match against Sicilian club Palermo with a knee injury. It was revealed that Marchisio has torn his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Claudio Marchisio is scheduled to go into surgery this week but this injury will no doubt keep him out of Italy’s European Cup campaign this summer.

Claudio’s teammate for both club and country Leonardo Bonucci said, “It will be a huge loss. Claudio is a leader in the dressing room and that of the national team, apart from being a really great footballer.” Bonucci also posted on his Instagram account “an important victory…. But there is nothing to celebrate; today we lost for several months an important player for Juve and the national team. Stay strong Marchisio, we will win for you and we’re expecting you (back) stronger than ever.”

Juventus’ victory over Palermo on Sunday has put the Bianconeri six points ahead of second place Napoli in their quest for their fifth Scudetto title. There are only five more games to play for Juventus, since Napoli’s victory today against Bologna moved the Naples club within six points but with four games left in their season. The Bianconeri will be going into their upcoming crunch weeks in the Serie A without one of their most hardworking players.

Juventus will take on Lazio Wednesday at the Juventus stadium in Torino Italy and they will need to be focused against the eighth place Laziale. La Vecchia Signora will then on Sunday travel to the Artemio Franchi to take on Europe contending Fiorentina. The match against Fiorentina on Sunday will be Juventus’ last huge team to face in Italy before the season wraps up come May 15.

The Bianconeri can wrap up their fifth Scudetto title come May 1st after their home match against relegation threatened Carpi. The unfortunate side to the story is that Juventus will be missing Marchisio for the closing stages of their season. Marchisio’s injury is also a huge blow to Italy’s Euro 2016 hopes. Group E of the Euro 2016 competition is one of the most challenging of the tournament. Italy will play Belgium in the first game of the group. The second match of the group is then Sweden before they finish off group E against Ireland. The Azzurri will need all their best players for this challenging group and one of them will certainly be missing.
