In recent months, news outlets in the United States have reported that newly-created MLS side LAFC have inquired about the services of players such as Javier Hernandez (Chicharito), Andres Guardado, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Well, another name has been thrown onto the list, and it looks like a deal could happen sooner rather than later.
According to ESPN FC, it has been reported that the club have been in advanced talks to sign famed Dutch international midfielder Wesley Sneijder with a two-year contract worth over 3.5 million dollars per season.

While this deal looks a bit out of left field, considering that there are players who would fit the market much better than the Dutch international, the deal makes sense for both player and team.
Since his acrimonious transfer from Inter Milan in January of 2013, Sneijder has been playing his football in Istanbul for Turkey’s most successful club side, Galatasaray.
While many view Turkey as a final destination point for a footballer’s career, the Dutch international experienced a renaissance in the Turkish capital as he amassed 45 goals in all competitions in his four and a half seasons at the club. Not a bad goal haul for a midfielder.

He’s still been assisting as well, tallying over 15 of them in the 2016-17 campaign.
While he has settled in to life with Galatasaray, his exploits have garnered little attention all over the world since the Turkish Superlig doesn’t have a worldwide reach.

A move to Los Angeles would thrust the Dutch international back into the limelight, but above all, he could be the face of an emerging MLS franchise looking to make waves in their debut season in 2018. A move out of footballing purgatory could suit Sneijder well.
A player with extensive accolades such as a UEFA Champions League medal and international experience could see this move as a move back into stardom. A player with a personality like Sneijder would relish this opportunity to impress in a market that is embracing football with open arms.

If the deal goes through, Sneijder could be the No.10 that could unlock defenses for LAFC next season. He can slot in behind the striker or play on the left side of the pitch. As a result of his age, he could also slot in as a playmaker in front of the back four to distribute the ball from further away.
On top of where he will play, he can be a mentor for young players looking to make their mark in the top league in US Soccer and bring LAFC trophies in the near future.
For LAFC, they look to make big moves before the season not only make their team strong, but give the fans something to look forward to.
Also, according to ESPN FC, LAFC seek to match the LA Galaxy in terms of signing world class talent with worldwide appeal. While the Galaxy signed one of the most marketable players in the World in David Beckham 10 years ago, they see Wesley Sneijder, while not Beckham, as a player who is marketable all over the world due to his exploits with Inter Milan and the Dutch national side.
Finally, with the signing of Sneijder, it shows intent from the newly-formed MLS side that they seek to compete for trophies in their maiden season in the league. His stint in Turkey showed that he has a lot left in the tank. A man with a winning pedigree could only be helpful for a team seeking success, immediately.
