One of the biggest stars in England over the past few seasons could be on the move away from one of the biggest clubs in the world. Yaya Toure, who has been flirting with leaving Manchester City for two seasons, now, might finally be leaving the club for greener pastures in his mind. Several clubs from all over the globe have expressed interest in bringing the Ivorian midfielder to their club. Several clubs may be able to cough up the cash that it will take to pry the marauding midfielder away from City’s grasp.
Will City be willing to sell with new manager and former Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola coming to the club? I think so, but let’s get into my reasoning for that thought.
Yaya Toure has been nothing short of a mainstay in the City team during the seasons with Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini’s successful spells as manager. Yaya is a fan favorite and has been at the heart of City’s midfield, so why do I think Yaya will leave? His age and his agent. For me, it’s as simple as those two reasons.
Yaya is not getting any younger at 33 years old and has been slowing down the last few seasons. He was known to be the difference in a lot of big matches with his late attacking runs that will end in a thumping 30+ yard strike to the top corner. Now, we can expect Yaya to stand around for 75 minutes and then try and put the team on his back during the last 15. His lack of effort has been noticeable and cost the team several crucial points in the EPL this season. Had the Yaya from 3-4 years ago played this season, City could have competed for the league title.
Yaya’s agent has been the driving force behind so many rumors that links his client away from the Etihad Stadium. Nearly everytime there is a rumor that had Yaya leaving, he plays it up in hopes that it will have City officials scampering to give Yaya a new deal, but City officials have held their ground. His agent is looking for a big pay day if his client leaves in a big deal away from the club as his agent fees would surely pay for a nice yacht or brand new sports car.
I personally would love to see Yaya stay at the club and it looks like he personally has been shunning deals off in order to try and prove to Pep he is worth the stay. Inter Milan and several Chinese clubs have apparently offered around $40 million dollar deals that he has declined. Inter are still in hot pursuit of him as Mancini wants a reunion at the club with the Ivorian. If he were to leave, I believe he will be sold to Inter. All of this will depend on if Pep wants to keep the midfielder or not. As much as I would like to see him stay, I think Pep will think other wise.
